In this installment of Practical Magic, Lisa Stardust explains why people are talking about Uranus in Gemini 2025. Always remember that magic is for believers, but this column can also simply serve as a guide to getting in touch with yourself — magically or not.

It's no secret that the last five years have been tough to say the least. Astrology gave us a hint that this would happen, and right now, with so much political strife, you might have seen chatter that the stars yet again are giving hints about what's to come in our current situation.

The astrology girls on Instagram and TikTok have been chatting about how wars have happened during Uranus in Gemini — a transit that is set to begin again this year. But what does that mean for our current political landscape? And does this transit have to do with our political climate? Let's get into it.

When does Uranus enter Gemini?

Uranus will be in Gemini starting on July 7, 2025. The planet briefly retrogrades back into Taurus on November 7, then reenters Gemini in April 2026. It will stay there until May 2033.

What does Uranus in Gemini even mean?

Every planet in our solar system eventually returns to the spot in the sky that it was in during a significant time. And, each spot in the sky is associated with a Zodiac sign. So, as the planets move around the sun, they're shifting into new Zodiac territories — but it takes different amounts of time for each planet to do so depending on their distance from the sun.

The sun itself also has Zodiac placements — it moves back to the same degrees every year. When a planet does get back to the same spot in the sky that aligns with a particular time or event, it's called a planetary return (for example, you have your Saturn return, when Saturn moves back to the place it was in the sky when you were born). These returns are used to mark timelines and show growth and progress. The reason we astrologers are constantly looking to the past to assess the present and future is that we can learn from them and use the dates as indicators of importance.

So, Uranus entering Gemini means the planet Uranus is entering the spot in the sky associated with the Gemini zodiac sign, where it was also located during some significant historic events.

Does Uranus in Gemini mean war?

Not necessarily. It is true that wars have happened during this planetary placement, though. The Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and World War II coincided with this transit in the past. But as we're seeing right now, the late degrees of Uranus in Taurus seem to be triggering the potential to manifest unrest, similar to when the United States entered World War II.

Why does Uranus in Gemini seem to push the topic of war? Quite frankly, Uranus in Gemini is dualistic. The qualities of the air signs are mirrored back at each other with Uranus's edginess (because Gemini is the twin star). People want to fight back by expressing their beliefs — good, bad, and ugly. But it doesn't mean that they necessarily wish to engage in combat. In other words, war isn't inevitable with Uranus in Gemini, and of course not every war happens during this transit.

Regardless of your stance, know that the cosmic and political climate is evolving. We might see shifts when Saturn and Neptune come together on February 20, 2026 for the first time in centuries. Historically, combining these planets in different signs has brought the onset of the Revolutionary and Cold War, but tore down the Berlin Wall. Hopefully, the presence of the centaur Chiron in Aries will lend a healing and helping hand, even though the eclipses of 2027, particularly the solar eclipse on August 2, are intensifying the public sentiment. Since this occurs during the United States’ nodal opposition (a fated transit that happens every nine years), we might see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Astrology suggests that matters will take time. Change won't happen overnight, but as long as we stand firm, we can use our voice during Uranus in Gemini to improve matters. Never be afraid to raise your voice. The worst thing to do is to sit in silence. Don't give up! We have the power — the stars confirm it.
