Warning: spoilers for The Summer I Turned Pretty season 2 ahead.

Jenny Han's first novel trilogy has finally been adapted for the screen, and now The Summer I Turned Pretty will be getting the full adaptation treatment with a season 3, which will be the show's final season.

ICYMI: Coming-of-age novel The Summer I Turned Pretty was first published in 2009. A few years later, in 2013, it was announced that it had been optioned for television. But it wasn't until February 2021 that Amazon gave the project a series order, officially giving the green light on the TV series's development.

The Summer I Turned Pretty is many years in the making, and I’m so excited to tell Belly’s story," author Jenny Han told Deadline in 2021 when the show was first announced. “For the longtime book fans, I think it will have been worth the wait. For those newly discovering the Summer series, I hope you fall in love with these characters and this place that is so dear to my heart.”

Jenny Han's most recent trilogy, the To All the Boys series — consisting of the three YA novels To All The Boys I've Loved Before, P.S. I Still Love You, and Always and Forever, Lara Jean — was adapted by Netflix in 2018, with all three books getting an on-screen companion. (XO, Kitty, a TATB spin-off series that focuses on Lara Jean Covey's younger sister Kitty, debuted on Netflix in 2023 and is now headed for its third season. More on that here!)

The Summer I Turned Pretty season 2 premiered two summers ago, on July 14, 2023. The sophomore chapter of Belly Conklin's story ran weekly until its season finale in mid-August. The series was renewed for a third season, which was later announced as the last, before the second season's end — below, we've gathered everything we know so far about the next addition to the Jenny Han on-screen universe, including The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 episode release timings, new and returning cast members, plot details, trailer, and first look photos.

The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 writers' room and production start were among the many shows delayed until the resolution of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. While seasons 1 and 2 were released during the summers of 2022 and 2023, respectively, season 3 skipped a year as fair negotiations weren't reached in time to expect the third chapter to hit our screens during the summer of 2024. (Fans were already anticipating a 2025 release date when the series was also not included in Prime Video's 2024 teaser trailer.)

What will The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 be about?

John Merrick/Prime Video

The Summer I Turned Pretty book trilogy follows the coming-of-age of 16-year-old Isabel “Belly” Conklin as she spends summers in the fictional beach town of Cousins Beach with her mother Laurel, older brother Steven, and her mother's childhood best friend Susannah and her sons Conrad and Jeremiah — two brothers who Belly gets wrapped up in a love triangle with.

TSITP season 3 will follow the chronology of Han's novels and feature a time jump. The next book in the trilogy, titled We’ll Always Have Summer, was published in 2011 and picks up with Belly and Jeremiah in college and very much still in a relationship.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly on May 20, 2025, it was teased that the time jump would be two years long, like the book's; however, it has since been confirmed that the The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 time jump is actually four years long.

Gavin Gasalegno told the outlet that Jelly is fully out of the “honeymoon phase” by the time we see them again, and have shifted into more “long-term thinking” about their relationship. "You're jumping right into that [moment with them]," Casalegno said. “There's a lot of relationships that don't make it to two years, so it's a special thing to be able to see what has worked in the relationship, what have they compromised on. I think that'll be fun for people to see.”

"You get to see the little things that make their relationship unique and separate from Belly and Conrad's," Lola Tung added. "It's easy for them to be with each other. It'll be cool to see that dynamic because a lot of the time in the show, the relationships can feel difficult because they have a hard time communicating or just circumstances are not great, whether it's family stuff or life stuff or physical distance. So I think it's nice to see things in a positive place with them."

Han previously echoed as much while speaking to EW back in March 2025. "It's very sweet and there's so many amazing scenes for Belly and Jeremiah this season, so many," Han said at the time. "Lola and Gavin have really great chemistry and got into such a good rhythm with each other, because we do have a little bit of a time jump going into season 3, so they needed to have that kind of bond, and it was really seamless. It'll be joyful for people to witness it."

“The Jellyfish fans love how sweet and how they are, at their core, best friends,” Tung said. "That relationship is something that's so special and so unique to them, so it's exciting to see this season and how their relationship blossoms."

Even if it all sounds like a dream, this is still a love triangle story. The official synopsis of We'll Always Have Summer is as follows: “Belly has only ever been in love with two boys, both with the last name Fisher. And after being with Jeremiah for the last two years, she’s almost positive he is her soul mate. Almost. While Conrad has not gotten over the mistake of letting Belly go, Jeremiah has always known that Belly is the girl for him. So when Belly and Jeremiah decide to make things forever, Conrad realizes that it’s now or never — tell Belly he loves her or lose her for good. Belly will have to confront her feelings for Jeremiah and Conrad and face the inevitable: She will have to break one of their hearts.”

ERIKA DOSS/Prime Video

"Conrad's been away from everyone for a while, and now he's back in the mix with people," Jenny Han told EW. "It's almost like rediscovering and also seeing the ways that they've both changed and have had some distance from each other, and who are these people now? Because there is a little bit of a time jump and he's been gone. People will see the ways that he's changed and he's seeing the ways that Belly and Jeremiah — and Steven [Sean Kaufman] — have changed as well."

Eagle-eyed fans of the books noticed an easter egg in the season 2 finale that already seemed to confirm the third season would remain pretty faithful to the novels. During the flashback of Belly's last conversation with Susannah, Belly arrives as the Fisher boys' mom is writing letters in bed. Belly's mom, Laurel, moves the letters in a jumble, and Susannah tries to haphazardly put them into envelopes to get them out of the way.

In the third novel, this mix-up leads to Susannah's letter to Conrad being mistakenly given to Jeremiah, which is a crucial plot point and extremely pivotal moment for the endgame of the Belly-Conrad-Jeremiah love triangle.

“One thing about Jenny Han…she’ll remind you how this story really ends,” reacted one fan on Twitter. "She showed us Susannah writing the letters and dropping them, which most likely led to the mix-up!”

However, not everything will be by the book — pun intended. "There are going to be surprises," Han told EW. "There are the things that they know and then there are things they think they know, and then there's going to be, hopefully, things that surprise them."

"The one thing I've always admired about Jenny is that every season and every decision about what's coming next is purely to serve the story," Tung added. "She's never going to do anything that doesn't make sense for the story. It's all about this beautiful world she's created and giving the fans something really, really special and giving us something really special to work with."

This isn't the first time Han has emphasized the fact that TSITP is a TV adaptation after all. "I really had to weigh what the fans are expecting with where the show is going creatively and find that balance,” Han told Variety in June 2022. “My priority has always been that I want fans of the book to feel really satisfied by the story we’re telling, but also for them to know that this is an adaptation in a new medium, so it’s not going to be exactly the same. I think those are sort of the two things that are always in my head… I don’t want to spoil too much, but the books have been out for a while. You never know what could happen with the show. I was open-minded going into it. I was considering a lot of different possibilities.”

Are there any first-look photos of The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3?

EW got an exclusive first look at season 3, showing us our leading trio post-time jump. We get plenty of pictures of Belly and Jeremiah enjoying their couple life at uni. We also get a peek at Conrad on his journey to becoming a doctor after attending Stanford.

We also see a single Conrad at the beach, surrounded by Belly and Jeremiah and Steven and Taylor, which Han told EW is actually a TBT. "I wasn't thinking of him as a fifth wheel, per se," Han told the publication. “That is actually a flashback moment in that photo, so do with that what you will.”

Is there a trailer for The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3?

Yes! Prime Video put out the official trailer for The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 on June 12, 2025. The trailer, which you can watch above, starts with a flashback of Belly and Conrad locking eyes from season one. “First loves are important, but they're not as important as lasts,” Belly says as a clip of her and Jeremiah kissing surrounded by flowers plays.

“Have you ever been in love?” a new character played by Zoé De Grand Maison asks Conrad in a bar. “Once,” he replies, and flashes of him and Belly spending time together take over the screen. “I loved him in a way that you can only really do the first time around,” Belly's voice then narrates. “But that's the past. Jeremiah, he's my future. This is the way it's supposed to be. He's the one."

And then, the big announcement: Jeremiah and Belly are engaged to be married, but the path doesn't look so easy. Aside from the central love triangle, there are also some teasers to other ominous things — i.e., Steven in a car accident?! — in the trailer. “Life's too short not to spend it with the person you love,” Belly finally proclaims.

Previously, Prime Video had released the first official teaser for The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 on April 24, 2025. In the teaser, which you can watch below, we get to see Belly and Jeremiah enjoying the happy couple life at college, sneaking in library kisses and hugging at every corner. Everything is perfect, and then the song stops. “Hey,” Conrad says with a candy cane in his mouth (!!!) as he knocks on Belly's door — literally and figuratively.

“It’s the end of her junior year of college, and Belly’s looking forward to another summer in Cousins with her soulmate, Jeremiah. Her future seems set, until some core-shaking events bring her first love Conrad back into her life,” the teaser's synopsis read. “Now on the brink of adulthood, Belly finds herself at a crossroads and must decide which brother has her heart. Summer will never be the same… ”

Of course, both the trailer and teaser are set to another Taylor Swift song: Lover's “Daylight" — with a hazy transition into “Red (Taylor's Version)” as Conrad appears.

ICYMI: TSITP is a proud Swiftie show, with the majority of the cast being vocal about their love for T-Swift. While season 1 debuted “This Love (Taylor's Version)," the full-length trailer for season two served as the premiere for Taylor Swift’s “Back to December (Taylor's Version),” ahead of the July 2023 re-release of Speak Now.

Who is in the cast of The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3?

ERIKA DOSS

Lola Tung plays The Summer I Turned Pretty's lead role of 16-year-old Belly Conklin, who is… awkwardly adjusting to exiting her awkward stage. Completing the love triangle the show centers on are actors Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno, portraying the Fisher brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah, respectively.

Manifest star Sean Kaufman is Steven, Belly's older brother; Jackie Chung plays Belly's mother, Laurel; and Rachel Blanchard portrays the late Susannah Fisher, Conrad and Jeremiah's mother, the “glue” that holds both families together. It's possible that Blanchard could return as Susannah in flashbacks, similar to how she did in the final episode of season 2.

Variety also announced the news that seven new additions are joining the Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 cast. The new cast includes series regulars Isabella Briggs (Fatal Attraction miniseries) and Kristen Connolly (The Whispers).

Isabella Briggs will play Denise Russo, who gets close to Steven, while Kristen Connolly

Wait, are there The Summer I Turned Pretty spinoffs in the works?

Courtesy of Prime

There hasn't been any confirmation yet whether Prime Video will continue the series beyond TSITP's third novel, We'll Always Have Summer, but the probability is high considering that Jenny Han recently signed a TV and film deal with Amazon Studios.

“Adapting my novel, The Summer I Turned Pretty, into a television series at Prime Video has been an incredible experience, and I’m so thrilled to now expand my relationship with them,” Han said ahead of season one's release, per Deadline. “I’ve been telling stories for as long as I can remember, first on the page, then onscreen, and now I’m delighted to start this new chapter: creating and championing stories about coming of age at every age for Prime Video’s global audience.”

Han's partnership with Prime Video might mean that the TSITP trilogy will get even more than the full adaptation treatment, that more of her books could make it to the screen, and that TSITP universe might be expanded in a brand-new way.

While speaking to Deadline on September 5, 2023, about The Summer I Turned Pretty's predominantly young female viewership, head of TV at Amazon Studios Vernon Sanders said the streamer is “over the moon” about finally landing a “defining show for that audience," and hinted at a potential future of spin-offs for TSITP.

“This show is going to continue to be a huge centerpiece for us, and we absolutely have plans to continue building it,” Sanders said. “Jenny’s got great vision for where she wants to go with all of it, but we’re already hard at work developing complementary pieces… I will say, stay tuned, but Jenny’s got some exciting surprises. So we’re thrilled about a season 3, and she’s got a vision for more.”

When was The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3, the final season, confirmed?

In an Instagram post on August 3, 2023, Prime Video announced the renewal of The Summer I Turned Pretty, with the caption: “For everyone living for the hope of a season three.” Prime Video also included a note that The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 “was greenlit ahead of the strikes and production will not begin until after negotiations are resolved.” Nonetheless, the comments were immediately flooded with rejoicing fans.

The announcement video, which you can watch below, was set to Taylor Swift's folklore track “August,” with on-screen text that read “we will always have summer” — a nod to the final book title in the novel trilogy — and “see you in Cousins Beach for season 3.”
